Podcast # 45 – Wars and Rumours of Wars

My name is Mark Stevens.  I am talking today with Allan Colston. He is the author of The Last Days of Tolemac, which is a book dealing with prophecy and other end-time events.

For those listeners who were not with us during our last Podcast, this is a continuation of our series “Signs of the Times”.  Welcome to the Podcast Allan.

Thanks Mark, it’s great to be with you once more.

Mark: If you don’t mind, before we begin, I just wanted to ask you something about our last podcast.

Sure Mark. What did you have in mind?

Mark: Well you ended up by talking about wars and rumours of wars, and you said that you would explain what you meant by that in a later podcast. So I was wondering if you could cover that in more detail today?

I’m glad you asked me that, but before I do so, there is something that listeners need to understand before we go any further, and that is the nature and purpose of prophecy.

Most people today use the word prophecy in a very general way. What I mean by that is that they regard prophecy as anything that is predicted to happen in the future, no matter who or what the source.

However, I treat prophecy and prediction as two completely different things. In my Blog, whenever I refer to the word prophecy, I am not talking about predictions.

Mark: So what is the difference between the two?

Many people have asked me the same question Mark. They want to know if it is wise, or even possible, to know what will happen in the future?

People today tend to believe that life unfolds according to chance, based on forces that can never be understood, let alone predicted. They believe that any attempt to try to predict future events is sheer folly. These people are content to take each day as it comes.

But prophecy is not simple prediction, and those who claim to be prophets do not do so merely to inform.  They are not just telling an interesting story. All true prophecy stands as a warning. And those who study and learn from these warnings, may not only become the guardians of wisdom. They may in time become beacons for the transformation of society.

Scott:   Why is it necessary to warn people?

The Buddha taught his disciples that those who were unaware of the meaning of their times had (and I quote) “much dust in their eyes.” These people would have to acquire understanding by living through the consequences of their actions.

They would have to travel along the path of suffering. So the purpose of all true prophecy is to inspire understanding, and to reduce suffering. And this is the crucial point we need to understand.

For if we can learn to understand prophecy, and take the necessary action beforehand, then we can save ourselves from future suffering. This is the purpose and the goal of my book “The Last Days of Tolemac“.

It is designed to remove the dust from our eyes, and allow us to see the events of our times through the eyes of understanding, rather than through the veil of ignorance.

I consider prediction to be something that is the product of human intellect, whereas true prophecy has a divine origin, either in the form of a vision or a direct quotation by a divine being, such as Jesus.

And I need to make one thing very clear Mark. Although I have studied prophecy for well over fifty years, I am not a prophet. I do not know the future, and I have never had any prophetic dreams or visions, as so many of today’s evangelists claim to have had.

Instead, I am merely an interpreter of prophecy, and my interpretations are based solely on my own intuition. However, I do not claim to have any special gift, and listeners should always use their own judgement before deciding whether to act on them.

So the test of my interpretations is whether or not they turn out to be correct.  And this where I am concerned, because I believe that what is about to happen on the earth is truly alarming.

Mark: Why do you say that, Allan?

In chapter 24 of his gospel, St. Mathew wrote that shortly before Jesus was crucified, his disciples approached him on the Mount of Olives and asked: “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Jesus answered them by saying: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

What I find significant about this Mark, is that Jesus was not merely referring to conditions which have long existed in the world, but to a specific series of events that would lead up to his return.

After all, there has hardly ever been a time when there wasn’t war between one nation and another. No Mark, Jesus was talking about the time in which we are living now. And the part that troubles me about this is that Jesus goes on to say: “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom”.

Over the last year, there have been two wars which have been dominating world news. The first is the Russian invasion of the Ukraine which has been going on now for more than four years. And the second is the attack on Israel by Hamas in October 2023, and the subsequent response by Israel on the people of Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. And neither of these battles show signs of ending any time soon.

And this is where “nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” has me worried, especially with Donald Trump as President. I don’t know if you recall a discussion we had in September 2024 in which I talked about his health issues and his increasing decline into dementia.

Mark: Wasn’t that the podcast titled “The End of the American Dream”?

Brilliant Mark. Your memory is excellent. Anyway, in that podcast I referred to Dr. Harry Segal, senior lecturer at Cornell University, and fellow psychologist Dr. John Gartner who had recently begun a podcast devoted to an analysis of Donald Trump’s rapid mental deterioration, which they claimed was accelerating month by month.

Dr. Segal predicted that we were going to see an interaction between his cognitive decline and his personality disorder, both of which were severe diagnoses for anybody, let alone someone who should never have been in power in the first place.

Although he said that he had not treated Trump as a patient, he said his verbal blunders were examples of Phonemic paraphasia, which is the swapping of words for others that sound similar. But he said the key sign of his cognitive decline was that Trump was not aware of his own mental failings.

And this is what alarms me Mark, because it is now clear that Trump is completely unaware of his deteriorating mental condition. And never have we had better evidence of this than America’s latest foray into the Iranian conflict.

Mark: Well I have to say that I agree with you there.

First of all, we still have no clear answer to the question as to why America got involved in the Middle East in the first place. And secondly, none of the reasons advanced by Trump so far have made any sense.

According to Trump, Iran had to be attacked because the U.S. was “very nearly under threat” by its advanced weapons systems. He said that their pursuit of nuclear weapons posed an immediate threat to the American public, even though he had declared last year that his June attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities had “completely and totally obliterated” the country’s nuclear program.

Yet according to the CIA, Iran posed no immediate threat to the USA, and was years away from developing a missile capable of reaching the United States. So, in retrospect, it has become obvious that because the entire attack was initiated and carried out by Israel, the U.S. was only there to please Netanyahu.

At a ceremony to award the Congressional Medal of Honor to three U.S. military service members, Trump discussed how the attacks on Iran were going. But then he quickly went off topic to talk about the curtains and his ballroom project in the White House, making it the second time in one day that he had pivoted from Iran to decorations.

“See that nice drape? When that comes down right now you see a very, very deep hole, but in about a year and half from now, you’re gonna see a very, very beautiful building. And there’s your entrance to it right there,” Trump said, pointing to gold curtains behind him.

“In fact, I think I’ll even, I’ll save money on the doors because you can’t get more beautiful than that. I picked those drapes in my first term. I always liked gold, but I think we can save a lot of money. I just saved, I just saved curtains”.

With his intercession in Venezuela, by capturing Nicolas Maduro, together with his threats against Cuba, Greenland and even Canada, Trump simply acts impulsively, ignoring all alliances and accepted international norms and practice. And this is where the threat lies.

For what Donald Trump has done is exactly what Putin did when Russia attacked the Ukraine. He did so impulsively, ignoring territorial boundaries that have been considered protected for the last seventy years. And the stark situation is this. If Putin, and now Trump, can do this and can get away with it, then so can others. And this is where the words of Jesus are now becoming reality.

Mark: So do you think that these wars will now spread to other countries?

Exactly Mark. In just a few days, the attack on Iran has spread across the entire Middle East, involving countries like Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan and Oman, as well as Syria and Lebanon. And of course it will not end there.

With his latest attack on Iran, l believe that Trump will unwittingly unleash a spate of conflicts all around the world, particularly involving the forces of China and North Korea in the Pacific region. For if they are no longer restrained by the threat of US intervention, I believe that it will only be a matter of time before China attacks Taiwan, and North Korea attacks South Korea.

Over the last year, China has conducted ever increasing exercises in the gulf of Taiwan, and has made no secret of its intention of restoring Taiwan to a part of Mainland China. Although the U.S. and Taiwan signed a Defence Pact known as the Mutual Defence Treaty in which the U.S. stated that it would protect Taiwan if it was ever invaded by China, this Treaty expired in 1979.

And although the U.S. currently maintains a naval force in the area, it is uncertain if they would intervene in the event of future hostilities, especially if Donald Trump decides to adopt a neutral position, as he did in his last administration.

However, if China does have plans to attack Taiwan, then there is no better time to do so than when most of  America’s naval forces are tied up in the Middle East. Once again Mark, I am not saying it will be so, but that if it is so, it will be further confirmation of the words of Jesus.

And of course if China does invade Taiwan, then, emboldened by the Chinese action, North Korea will have every incentive to do what they have long wanted to do, and that is to invade South Korea. And since their capital city Seoul is just a few miles across the border, their military troops could overrun the city within days.

So what this means Mark, is that, within the next twelve months or so, the entire Northern Hemisphere could be embroiled in war, and the devastation and suffering caused by these invasions will dwarf anything we have experienced in our lives thus far.

Mark: So how do you think this is all going to end?

Well Mark, I can tell you exactly how it is all going to end, because we have known about this for the last two and a half thousand years. In fact I talked about this in my Podcast with Scott Paton way back in October 2012.

In that Podcast I explained that the ancient Biblical prophets said that our present world age would end in a series of cataclysms brought on by a close encounter with a comet.

Because of the catastrophes that would afflict the earth at that time, and the devastation caused by the global earthquakes and Tsunamis that would follow, the ancient prophets referred to this event as “The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord.”

According to these prophets, this Terrible Day of the Lord would be followed by a seven year period of terror and destruction that would end in the return to earth of the long-awaited Saviour, who would lead the world into a new Golden Age of peace, that is predicted to last for a thousand years.

And based on the events of the last few months, I believe that this close encounter with a comet is now only a few years away.

Mark:  Wow! That is a bold prediction Allan.  Why do you think this will happen so soon?

As I say, Mark, I base this on the words of the Hebrew prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel lived around the end of the seventh century BC, at a time when the Jews were living in exile in Babylon.

In Chapter 37 of his book of prophecy recorded in the Old Testament, Ezekiel predicted that a series of events would occur in the “latter days”, a term used by Ezekiel as well as later prophets to denote the times leading up to the return of the saviour.

Ezekiel predicted that a time would come when the scattered tribes of Israel would return to the land of their fore-fathers, and would become a nation once more. As he wrote:

And say unto them, thus saith the Lord God: behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them up on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel.”

And as you probably know, Mark, this actually happened on May 14, 1948, when the state of Israel came into being, following the adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly.

So Mark, as you can see from this particular prophecy, it is clear that Ezekiel was referring to events taking place in our own times. But Ezekiel did not stop there. He went on to make even more dramatic predictions.

Mark:  What else did he have to say?

He said that soon after this time, the land of Israel would be threatened by many nations, and that the armies of these nations would surround Israel on every side. This great coalition of armies would come from, and I quote, “the north parts”, and from countries like “Persia, Libya and Ethiopia”.

As Ezekiel writes in Chapter 38: “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, thus saith the Lord God; in that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army.”

And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.”

According to Ezekiel, this vast mechanized army would assemble on the borders to the north, south and east of Israel. Their goal would be to wipe out the Jewish nation once and for all, and to take over their land. The Jews would be powerless to stop the mighty forces that would be arrayed against them on every side.

But just when all hope seemed to be lost, and the entire nation seemed to be doomed, the Jews would be saved by a supernatural event. For a comet would suddenly appear in the skies of earth. It would cause earthquakes throughout the earth, and would rain “hailstones, fire and brimstone” down on their enemies.

For as Ezekiel goes on to say: “And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken. Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel.”

So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.”

Mark:  So how do you think this relates to the events of our times?

Well Mark, the prophecies of Ezekiel that I have outlined here, as well as those of other Hebrew prophets that I include in my book, make it plain that the arrival of the comet will coincide with an attack on Israel.

This attack will be drawn from a coalition of forces, and will comprise armies from places like Libya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Iran, as well as those emanating from what Ezekiel calls “the north parts”. They will also be joined by forces from places quoted by Ezekiel, such as Meshech and Tubal, as well as Gomer and the house of Togarmah, all of which form part of modern Turkey.

Over the years Biblical scholars have devoted reams of space dissecting what countries Ezekiel was referring to, and where exactly these invading armies would be coming from. But for the purposes of this Podcast, it is sufficient to say that it will be an Islamic alliance drawn from a variety of Arab nations.

But whatever the source of these invading armies might happen to be, the rationale behind their invasion would seem to be obvious. Instead of destroying the land of Israel and its inhabitants, its mission would be to rid the land of all the Jews.

This would allow those Arabs presently living in Israel to have a home of their own at last, and to create a new Islamic nation with Jerusalem as its capital, centred around the sacred sites of the Islamic religion.

These would be the Temple Mount in the old city of Jerusalem, which is now the site of the holy Dome of the Rock, from where Mohammed is said to have ascended into heaven, as well as the Al Aqsa mosque, considered to be the third holiest site in Islam.

By choosing a land invasion, as opposed to an aerial attack by rockets and other armaments, this Islamic coalition would be sure that none of their sacred monuments would be damaged, and that the existing Islamic population in the area would be spared.

So the invasion that Ezekiel has predicted Mark, makes a lot of military sense. For in the eyes of the Arabs, as well as in other hostile Islamic countries, such a strategy would solve once and for all the problems of the Middle East. With the Jews gone, all of the countries of the region would be united under Islam, and their dream of taking full control of Jerusalem would finally become a reality.

Mark: So do you think that this future attack on Israel will actually happen?

Yes Mark, I do. And my reason for saying so is precisely because of what Israel has been doing recently to the Islamic nations that surround them. In addition to its attacks on Iran, it has renewed its forays into Lebanon and Syria, as well as its incursions into Gaza and the West Bank.

There is no doubt that the desire on the part of these nations to retaliate against Israel grows by the day. And all that stops them from doing so is the continuing supply of missiles and munitions by America. But if this supply should come to an end for any reason, I have no doubt that they would do so, exactly as Ezekiel has predicted.

So all we can do at the moment Mark is to watch and wait, or better still, as Jesus has said to watch and pray, and see how the events across the world continue to unfold. And you can be sure that I will keep you briefed as they do so.

Mark: I can’t tell you Allan how much I appreciate your comments and your insight into the alarming things that are happening in the world today. You provide a context that you simply cannot find in the Press or on Social Media. And for that you have my sincere thanks.
