The Heart of Darkness

Once Michael Harner had recovered from his near-death excursion into the shamanistic world induced by the sacred drink ayahuasca, his first response was to record the vivid visions that he had experienced the night before.

He found that the work of recall went easily, except for one portion of the trance that remained blank. It was as though the tape of that part of his visionary experience had been erased from his mind. After many hours of arduous struggle however, he finally succeeded in bringing it back into his conscious memory.

The part that he found so difficult to recall turned out to be the communications from the dragon-like creatures at the time he felt he was about to die. Although he was excited to have recovered this “lost” material, he also felt a sense of fear, since he now possessed secret knowledge that was only intended to be given to the dying.

Michael immediately decided to share this information with others, so that in the event that his life might be in jeopardy, the hidden “secret” that had been confided in him would not accompany him to the grave.  He therefore set out by dugout canoe to contact an American couple living at a nearby evangelical mission station.

However, as he was explaining his vision to them, when he came to the part about the reptile with water gushing out of his mouth, they reached for their Bible and read aloud the following verse:

And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood...” (Revelation 12:15)

They then went on to quote verse seven of the same chapter which described the war in heaven between Michael and his angels and the dragon and his angels, and how the dragon had been defeated and cast out into the earth together with his angels.

As Harner later wrote in his book, it was hard to know who was the more surprised. The missionaries were awed by the fact that an atheistic anthropologist possessed the same holy material that appeared in the Book of Revelation, while he was astonished to discover that they already knew the “secret” that these dragon-like creatures had told him was given only to those who had passed beyond the grave.

It was only later when Michael was explaining his vision to the blind Conibo shaman, that the true meaning of his visions began to become apparent. For when he explained that the dragon-like entities had told him that they were the true masters of every life-form on the planet, the shaman replied with a smile: “Oh, they’re always saying that.”

It was only then that his inner fear subsided, and Michael realised that these dragon-like entities were in fact masters of deception. Their goal was to try to seduce all those who came in contact with them into believing that they were the true masters of all life on the planet.

Had Michael been a student of Occult Wisdom, instead of an atheistic anthropologist, he would have known about the story of an ancient war in space between the forces of Light from the star-system Sirius, and the forces of Darkness emanating from the region of Orion, and how these defeated entities had sought refuge upon the earth.

He would also have come to realize that our planet is in fact a battleground still, in which the forces of Light remain locked in combat with the forces of Darkness. But this conflict is now being fought within the heart of man.

It is inside the heart of every being on earth today that this battle is being fought. Every man and woman is being pulled in opposite directions. The forces of Light continually strive to lift the soul into greater levels of wisdom, freedom and joy, while the forces of Darkness use every stratagem to imprison the soul in ignorance, hatred and suffering.

This is the climactic moment in history described by the Oracle of Tolemac. For this is the time when the forces of Darkness are gaining control over every country on earth. The forces of Light appear to be in decline all over the planet. Mankind everywhere is bound in chains.

But we are ever free to break the bonds of evil. There is always help at hand. For we need always to remember that in our darkest hour we can call upon the Masters of the Light.  They are with us now, just as they have been with us in the past, and just as they will accompany us through eternity.

No matter how bleak our lives may seem, and no matter how harsh our daily circumstances may be, this darkness can be dispelled. We need always to remember the ancient wisdom taught by the Masters of the Light:

A single candle can hold back the night.”
